The New Jersey State Bar Association’s Pandemic Task Force, under which the Courthouse Logistics & Operations Committee resides, is a blue-ribbon group of retired judges as well as lawyers representing NJSBA sections and committees, local bar associations, affinity bar associations, and specialty bar associations. that will study the many issues created by the COVID-19 crisis that affect the judicial system, the legal profession, the practice of law, and access to justice for the public. The entire Executive Committee of the NJSBA will participate as members of the Task Force. The Task Force will oversee five special subcommittees, each overseen by an NJSBA officer, that will focus on: 1) Law Firm Opening and Operations; 2) Resuming Jury Trials (Civil and Criminal); 3) Practice of Law Issues; 4) Courthouse Operations and Logistics; and 5) Access to Justice. The goal of the Task Force is to provide resources, information and relevant guidance in each of these critical areas to our members and to all stakeholders in government – the Governor’s office, the state Legislature and the Supreme Court.

The issues reopening businesses face include workplace safety for both employees and the public, especially for those individuals who may have a heightened risk for COVID-19 or those who have household members with a heightened risk; employees that are unable to resume normal job responsibilities due to ongoing family care obligations resulting from the pandemic; financial hardships; loan repayment and forgiveness requirements; leasing issues; insurance policy problems and options; supply chain issues and price setting; business liability; tax issues; and more.
